Jeri Salter: Rugged Beauty of the Texas Panhandle

One of Texas’ foremost pastel artists, Jeri Salter often travels from her Hill Country home to the Panhandle to capture the ever-changing light and weather of this region in sweeping landscapes, capturing the effect of “the faraway nearby.”

Often compared to Frank Reaugh for their shared medium and subject matter, Salter’s work is very much of her own hand and her own time. She takes photographs and notes in the field, returning to her studio where she edits elements within her compositions, evaluating the natural beauty of the land into something exceptional.

Jeri Salter: Rugged Beauty of the Texas Panhandle is a project curated by the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum with special thanks to the Amarillo Museum of Art for their collaboration in providing a venue through which to present this exhibition to our community.
