Austin's most beloved museum gets good food down to a fine art. The Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria - the picturesque and historic home of renowned art exhibitions, legendary Austin stories and the charming, 12-acre grounds featuring beautiful gardens, the Driscoll Villa and the Greek Temple of Love - opened its Cafe Laguna on June 10. Housed in the museum's recently restored, 93-year-old Gatehouse, the Cafe Laguna serves up lunchtime dishes and treats from celebrated Austin restaurateur Eddie Bernal and 34th Street Catering of Austin.
Open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cafe Laguna features a menu unlike any other museum eatery. Bernal, who is known for dazzling his 34th Street Cafe diners with savory entrees and decadent desserts, is bringing his casual yet refined cuisine style to Cafe Laguna. The menu features gourmet sandwiches, and 34th Streets' signature salads and sides, as well as freshly brewed ginger-peach tea, delectable desserts and Teo gelato.
In addition to its new chef-inspired menu, Cafe Laguna offers free Wi-Fi service and includes plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Members, visitors and students can enjoy an afternoon snack while taking in the museum's scenic grounds, or visit the adjacent Museum Store and the Gatehouse Gallery, which highlights works by The Art School faculty and students.
