SCHOOL PROGRAMS

AMOA's school programs support our mission to educate and inspire a diverse audience about the visual arts. In response to Austin’s substantive growth in the past 20 years, AMOA continues to address the growing needs of Austin’s students, teachers, and schools through a variety of initiatives.

SST ToursSeeing Special Things integrates year-round, curriculum-based art education into the Museum experience. See below for more information.

Our bilingual Free Family Pass  is distributed to every student who visits AMOA and encourages them to bring their entire family back for a free visit.

School programs are further supported by AMOA’s nationally recognized volunteer Group Tours makes the arts come alive for more than 10,000 students.

The AMOA Education Department meets regularly with AISD to ensure that its programs are consistent with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKs) for visual art.

SEEING SPECIAL THINGS

Seeing Special Things is 30 years old! SST is a multi-visit program that introduces 3rd through 5th grade students from Title I schools (schools with low-income enrollment of 75% or more) to the visual arts and the concepts of visual literacy. Each school year, 20 classes from 10 rotating Austin ISD schools receive four pre-tour classroom visits, free bus transportation and admission to four exhibitions at AMOA, interactive exhibition tours, and hands-on art activities. The Annual Seeing Special Things Student Art Exhibition celebrates students accomplishments at the end of the year.
