DOCENT PROGRAM

The Austin Museum of Art values its 32 year old docent program as an important contribution to the Austin community.  AMOA Docents lead tours both Downtown and at Laguna Gloria.  Voluntees at our downtown site learn about contemporary art and share their knowledge and enthusiasm with our visitors.  Volunteers at Laguna Gloria offer tours that focus on the historic Villa; its original owner and Texas legend Clara Driscoll; the picturesque grounds and gardens; and intimate art exhibitions.

Benefits of being an AMOA-Downtown Docent include:

• in-depth exhibition training 
• opportunity to meet exhibition artists and curators 
• monthly trainings focusing on tour techniques, art history lectures and discussions
• visits to artists’ studios and collectors’ homes 
• opportunity to learn how to look at art and how to talk about contemporary art 
• chance to meet others who enjoy looking at and talking about art

Requirements for becoming an AMOA-Downtown Docent include: 

• current AMOA membership
• 2 year commitment
• Minimum of 2 hours/week set aside for leading tours
• Minimum of 10 tours/year

• opportunity to learn how to look at art and how to talk about contemporary art
  
• chance to meet others who enjoy looking at and talking about art
